MegaIce Hockey 5’s, Hong Kong

The first ice hockey tournament in Hong Kong was organized in 1994. Due to the limited size of the venues that was played in, it was necessary to reduce the number of players from the traditional 6 to 5 per team, hence its name. Mega Ice, Hong Kong’s only international sized ice rink is capable of accommodating 6 players per team and therefore, the tournament reverted to the traditional 6 players format when it organized the Hockey 5’s for the first time in 2008.

The MegaIce Hockey 5’s is now the largest amateur hockey tournament in Asia.  The youth tournament usually starts at the end of April and into the first week of May, and the adults tournament starts in the 2nd week of May.  More than 60 teams participate in the adults tournament in the International, Asian A, Asian B, Asian C, and Women’s Divisions.
