Verity Bravo Starts Sunday League With OT Shutout

After a long summer break, Bravo is back in the HKAHC Sunday League with a different team name, 8 new faces, and 2 new coaches.

As of 23 Sept, the league’s website is still showing the wrong logo.

The team lost its team naming rights after Junglok AC’s decision to cut it’s monetary support to the HKAHC.  It came as no surprise after the league failed to display JAC’s logo for most of the season (it is still wrong in some parts of their website), as well as the league’s refusal to recognize JAC as an official league sponsor or partner.  It certainly didn’t help when the HKAHC allowed it’s officiating instructor to repeatedly harass JAC personnel and members.

A large number of long-time Bravo members also left the league as a result.  Gone are core members like Antony “Lamo” Chan, captain Murphy “Kuma” Cheung, and Randy “LaDude” Lau.  Replacing them are hot youngsters Steve Leung, Otto Chan, Szeto Lok Hin, and Lau Ting Hei.  Ex-Bravo Jo Ma also returned to the team for the season.  Perhaps the biggest addition to the team is local legend Andy “Tit Gap” Cheung and veteren goalie Bengy Hui.

Team manager Scott Yang and Dragon Center star coach Wong Cheung will form a dynamic coaching duo behind the bench.

With all the new faces, the coaching duo has a tough task with handling the lineups.  Players also need time to gel together as they get used to the playing style of their new line mates.  It showed when Verity Bravo  (V. Bravo) played The Rock last Sunday.

V. Bravo’s newly added young stars quickly showed what they could do with lightning speed and cool stick handling tricks.  However, plays were mostly one dimensional and individualistic.

Steve Leung – 1st Star of the game

Both teams were unable to score in regulation and tactical coach Wong Cheung started shuffling the lines before the ensuing OT period and whatever Wong did…  worked.   Steve Leung jammed in the OT game winning goal from John Ng and helped the team to its very first victory of the season.  Substitution goalie Edward Lee was also superb in net as he saved all 11 shots he faced.

Leung and Lee were picked as the game’s first and second star respectively.

There will be no games next Sunday, 28th September.  V. Bravo’s next game is on 5th October, they play WIHO at 11:15pm.

We will post the complete team schedule and roster on our website real soon.
