Bravo Eliminated From ND Playoffs.

2013 Bravo M_s

After finishing a historical 3rd in the Sunday Recreational League (SRL) Novice Division (ND), Bravo played 2nd-placed Merit in the playoff semi-final game this past Sunday night at MegaIce, Kowloon Bay.

The teams have played each other for four times during the ND regular season. Bravo had lost three of those four games and the remaining one was a 3-3 tie on 8th December, 2013.

To match up with Merit’s high-powered offense, defensemen Randy Lau and Scott Yang played the game as centers to balance the team out.  The change paid dividends as Bravo successfully suppressed Merit’s fire power.  Merit forward Parco Chow scored the game’s first goal about half way through the first period.  Bravo goalie Antony “Lamo” Chan gave up a huge rebound after a shot from Merit’s Johnathan Chang, and Chow beat the Bravo defense to the puck and banged it into the wide open net.  Lamo was unable to move into position as his long hair was reportedly tangled with the goal post.

Bravo’s solid play limited Merit’s offense to just one goal for most of the game.  However, Bravo could not solve Merit’s goalie Willard Li’s superb play.  The game remained a tense 1-0 until Merit forward Steve Collins picked off a pass from the Bravo defense with less than 7 minutes remaining in the game, and gave Merit a 2-0 lead.

For the remainder of the game, Bravo rolled through their power lines only and mounted a serious come back.  With their goalie pulled and only 50 seconds remaining in the game, Bravo star-forward Doug Crang finally scored and pulled the game to within a goal.  Their dreams, however, only lasted for another 50 seconds as Merit gained control of the puck in the ensuing face-0ff and kept control of it until the buzzer sounded.

Willard Li made 11 saves and Antony Chan made 16 saves.  They were named first and second stars of the game respectively.

With that, Bravo concluded their 2013-14 SRL Novice Division campaign.  We thank all our sponsors, our fans and families for the support you have given us over the season.

The MegaIce Hockey 5’s are coming up, and the Summer Leagues will start early June.
