“The Genie Curse” Ended Dreams For Bulls Hit And Bravo S

The Blue Genie

The 2013-14 EHL playoffs ended last Thursday with the Division B Bronze and Gold medal games and the Division A Gold medal game.  Team Unlimited beat White Orange to become Division A Champions.  In Division B, the Hockey Gods weren’t with both JLAC affiliated teams as Bravo S lost to Smurfs in the Bronze medal games; heavy favorites Bulls Hit also lost to the Warriors in the Division B finals.

Bravo S came out strong against the Smurfs as both teams played competitive hockey through out the game.  The difference was Smurfs replacement goalie Edward “The Genie” Lee.  The Genie made huge saves after huge saves and kept the Smurfs ahead for the entire game.  He looked especially sharp when Bravo S pressed hard near the end of the game with an extra attacker and successfully denied Bravo S of the Bronze medal.

The game of the night (and upset of the night) came when Warriors beat Bulls Hit in the Division B Finals.  The game was heated with intense action, arguably the most exciting game of the night.  However, stealing the show was replacement goalie Edward “The Genie” Lee again.  His brilliant play frustrated the normally high-scoring Bulls Hit forwards and earned himself an award for Best Goalie in the finals.

The Genie said in our exclusive post-game interview, “I always play my best against any JLAC teams because I love them.”

Perhaps our teams would send him some love by shooting more when we face him again in the future.

In the Division A Gold medal game, it was uneventful for most of the game as both teams played very conservatively.  The low scoring game continued all through the end with Team Unlimited trailing by a goal.  2013 Hockey 5’s Asian C Gold medalist Steve Leung became the hero for Unlimited as he scored the game-tying goal with less than a minute remaining in the game, forcing sudden-death overtime.

Shortly after the overtime period started, Leung scored the championship-winning goal and became the hero of for Unlimited and won the 2013-14 EHL Division A Championship.

The EHL will take a break as teams will now shift their focus to the 2014 MegaIce Hockey 5’s Tournament.  JLAC will send in 3 teams this year, stay tuned for more updates on this.
