MI Bravo Won Hard Fought Opener

HKAHCMI Bravo started their HKAHC Summer League in the right way with a 1-0 shutout victory against the X-Skate Grizzlies.  Ho Ka Fai scored the game winning goal, and goalie Antony “Lamo” Chan got the shutout win for the team.

The 2013 HKAHC Summer League brings in a new game system.  Each team fields 7 skaters and 1 goalie, and games run 2 x 13 minute periods.  Both teams struggled to adapt to the new system early in the game but after a few shifts, MI Bravo found their groove and dominated the Grizzlies for the entire 1st period.  Grizzlies goalie Rex Kong (a fellow Jung-Loker) saved all 16 shots at the end of the scoreless period.  The second period was more or less the same as the first as MI Bravo kept pressing hard for a goal.

MI Bravo forward Ho Ka Fai broke the deadlock midway through the second period.  He received the pass from Murphy Cheung and put it through Rex Kong for a 1-0 lead.  MI Bravo would battle hard for an insurance goal but Grizzlies would not go away without a fight.  Just as everyone thought the game was over, MI Bravo forward Patricia Ng high-sticked an opponent with 5 seconds remaining in the game.  Under new league rules, that resulted in an automatic penalty shot.  MI Bravo goalie Antony “Lamo” Chan was finally put to test and sure enough he delivered.  Lamo made a very solid save against the Grizzly shooter and MI Bravo won the game 1-0.

Player of the Game Ho Ka Fai’s only goal of the game turned out to be the game winning goal.  This game also marked Jo Ma’s first game in a Bravo jersey.  MI Bravo sits 2nd in Division D as Merit Thinkers beat SWAG 6-1 in the game after.

MI Bravo plays again next Sunday night at 22:00 against the SWAG.
